Notices to Mariners issued in 2009

Alterations to Irish Lights aids to navigation are announced by Notices to Mariners which are promulgated by mail, e-mail, Irish Lights' web site, and radio navigation warnings.

The following Notices to Mariners were issued in 2009:

No. 1 - 1 January 2009: caution to mariners navigating around the coast of Ireland to exercise care to avoid damage to floating Aids to Navigation.

No. 2 - 1 January 2009: GLAdgps transmission.

No. 3 - 15 January 2009: transmission of Automatic Identification System (AIS) as an aid to navigation from the following stations by 1 April 2009:Existing stations: Old Head of Kinsale Lighthouse, Cork Buoy, Hook Head Lighthouse, Red Bank Buoy, Coningbeg Buoy, Bore Rocks Buoy, SE Blackwater Buoy, Arklow Lanby, Codling Lanby, South Burford Buoy, North Burford Buoy, Bennet Bank Buoy, Strangford Buoy, Skulmartin Buoy, No 3 Larne Buoy New stations: Dublin Bay Buoy, Horseshoe Buoy, South Long Buoy, Barrels Buoy, Bullockmore Buoy

No. 4 - 19 January 2009: Withdrawal of South Rock Automatic Lightfloat and replacment by a Superbuoy.

No. 5 - 19 January 2009: Repositioing of Fundale Buoy.

No. 6 - 27 March 2009: Kish Bank Lighthouse - Reduction in range of fog signal.

No. 7 - 24 April 2009: DGPS Recapitalisation Works.

No. 8 - 22 May 2009: Establishment of a light on Blackhorse Rocks Beacon.

No. 9 - 22 May 2009: Replacment of Arklow Lanby by a Superbuoy and withdrawal of South Arklow Buoy.

No. 10 - 22 May 2009: Kish Bank Lighthouse - Temporary reduction in range of light.

No. 11 - 22 May 2009: Placement of the Special Marker Buoy (Pantaenius Buoy) on behalf of the Royal Ocean Racing club to mark the western turning point of the course in the Fastnet Yacht Race.

No. 12 - 24 July 2009: Virtual Aids to Navigation trial.No. 13 - 25 September 2009: Establishment of a light on Colt Rock Beacon.
