New Commissioners and Board Members
Representatives of Dublin City Council
On his election as Lord Mayor of Dublin on 21 June 2004
Councillor Michael Conaghan, became an ex officio
Commissioner of Irish Lights.
Councillor Conaghan comes from Donegal. He has been a Labour Party
Councillor for Ballyfermot Ward since 1991 and is Chairmain of the
City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. He is Assistant
Principal of Inchicore College of Further Education and has an
interest in arts, heritage, and culture.
Also, following local elections on 11 June 2004, Dublin City
Council has nominated Councillors Eric Byrne and Terence Flanagan
as its representatives on the Board of the Commissioners of Irish
Lights.
Councillor Eric Byrne is a Labour Party Councillor
for the Crumlin-Kimmage Ward, having been first elected to Dublin
Corporation in 1985. He is committed to representing those
Dubliners whose voices have previously gone unheard. Councillor
Byrne was a Dáil Deputy from 1989 to 1992 and from 1994 to
1997.
Councillor Terence Flanagan is a Fine Gael
Councillor for the Artane Ward. He replaced Richard Bruton TD, on
Dublin City Council in October 2003 following the ending of the
dual mandate, and was re-elected in the 2004 local elections. He is
a member of the Council's Finance Strategic Policy Committee.
Councillor Flanagan is an accountant with a major bank and is also
a board member of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Executive Members of the Board
Following a review of corporate governance structures by
the Commissioners, the Chief Executive and Heads of Departments
were appointed as Executive members of the Board of the
Commissioners of Irish Lights on 23 April 2004
