Appointments to the Board

John Kidney, who has been elected a Commissioner of Irish Lights, took his seat on the Board on 25 July 2003. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He is in practice in a firm of chartered accountants in Dublin and has interests in the hotel business in Ireland.
He grew up in Dun Laoghaire on Lower Glenageary Road just two doors from the Gray family where one of the older boys, Denis, later became Captain Denis Gray of Irish Lights.
He is interested in sailing and has been involved in sailing in Dun Laoghaire Harbour and further afield. He has also been involved in various administration positions in the sailing world in Ireland.
He is married with four children.


Councillor Claire Wheeler has been nominated to the Board of the Commissioners of Irish Lights as a representative of Dublin City Council. Councillor Wheeler is a member of the Green Party and represents the Dublin South East Inner City electoral ward. She took her seat on the Board on 28 February 2003.


On his election as Lord Mayor of Dublin on 7 July 2003, Councillor Royston Brady became a Commissioner of Irish Lights ex officio. Councillor Brady represents the Dublin North Inner City electoral ward. His professional background is in tourism.
