Lighthouse Depot Retirements

Two well-known personalities retired from the Lighthouse Depot, earlier this year.
Charlie O'Shea, Office Attendant, retired on 31st May 1996. Charlie's job involved going up town every day. He was extremely well known in Dun Laoghaire and it was impossible to walk a few steps with him without hearing someone shout 'Hiya Charlie'. He was manager of the Lighthouse Depot Football Team which had many successful results during his managerial term.
The General Manager, John Donnelly, presented Charlie with a picture of the Kish Lighthouse and a cheque from his colleagues. As almost everyone must know, Charlie built the Kish Lighthousewith a little help from one or two others. Dermot O'Carroll retired from the position of Senior Foreman Mechanical on 27th September 1996. He spent over 40 years in the Service and was well known and liked in the Depot and around the coast.
Dermot is a keen golfer and was Secretary of the Irish Lights Golf Society. He played in Irish Lights football matches with great enthusiasm and is an avid GAA fan.
The General Manager presented Dermot with a camera and a cheque from his colleagues.
Both Charlie and Dermot, two great characters, will be missed from the Lighthouse Depot, especially during lunch time when there was always a funny story from each of them.
