T.J. King, Bosun
On Tuesday 14th November in a simple service, surrounded by his family and former shipmates, Tommy King's ashes were reverently buried at sea in sight of the Kish Lighthouse. Tommy, who died in September of last year after a long illness, had expressed a wish to have his ashes committed to the deep.

Captain Cormac McGinley welcomed Mrs Geraldine King, Tommy's widow; his daughter, Susan; and grandson, Stephen on board ILT Granuaile. The ship sailed towards the Kish Lighthouse where the captain performed the simple, moving service of consigning Tommy's ashes to his beloved sea.

The poem below, written by Tommy's son, to his father's memory, made a fitting conclusion to the service.

Our thanks go to Captain McGinley for ensuring that Tommy's wishes were so fittingly carried out.

A Sailor Slips Away
Through the window above my bed
I see the stars bright against the dark sky.
Stars and sailors belong together.
This night The Old Man slipped his moorings
And voyages now among those stars
Whole once more and at peace.
Or is somewhere out on the shifting ocean.
One wave among many.
But different from all others, as every wave is.
We never truly die until we are forgotten.
Only then do we return to dust.
This, in itself is worth remembering.
