Marine Engineering and Electronics Opportunities

The Commissioners of Irish Lights are the General Lighthouse Authority responsible for providing and maintaining marine aids to navigation around the coast of Ireland. Traditional aids, such as lighthouses, buoys and beacons, are today supplemented by new technologies such as satellite positioning systems, AIS, solar power technology and telemetry.
The Commissioners are seeking an Engineering Operations Officer (Second Engineer) for their Aids to Navigation Service Vessel. The ILV Granuaile is a modern, 80 metre Diesel Electric ship, supplied by 5 x L16/24 MAN 690v Alternators with a combined output of 3,500kW. The ship is DP Class 1 with a Kongsberg DP system.

Engineering Operations Officer (Second Engineer)

In addition to the normal duties of a Second Engineer on a diesel electric vessel the successful candidate will be expected to fulfil responsibilities relating to maintenance, repair and survey of a range of ships machinery, plant and equipment, as well as work associated with aids to navigation support and charter work. Knowledge and experience of maintenance and fault finding on electronic and computer based control systems will be required.
Candidates should have experience working as Engineer in Charge of an Engineering Watch and hold a Second Engineer STCW A-III/3 Certificate. Preference will be given to candidates with combined engineering and electronic qualifications or experience.
