The 2010 Aids to Navigation Review recommended the transfer of Dun Laoghaire East and Dun Laoghaire West lighthouses to Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company. These lighthouses come under the category of local lighthouses or local aids to navigation and no longer fit within the remit of the General Aids to Navigation provision for which CIL is responsible. They are, however, considered as very important aids to navigation for the Dun Laoghaire harbour operation.

An Agreement has been signed between the Commissioners of Irish Lights and Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company transferring responsibility for Dun Laoghaire East and Dun Laoghaire West lighthouses to the harbour company.
